San Diego County offers a varied series of rocks that are suitable for rock climbing. There is very little limestone and most of the better surfaces are granite. At the Marco Polo Connection we offer our clients the opportunity to enjoy a morning rappelling. It is great fun and builds self-confidence, rock skills and offers a great way to enjoy the out-doors.

We usually meet in the parking lot at Mission Gorge Climbing area in Mission Trails Regional Park at 8:00 am. This is short 8 mile drive from downtown San Diego. Upon arrival your instructor will fit you with a Black Diamond climbing harness, rock climbing helmet and set of carabiners. You will need to wear clothing similar to Blue Jean material as it is rugged and you will also need to wear some tough lace-up athletic shoes or similar foot wear. After a short learning session on a series of small scale rocks where we can have an opportunity to learn some rudimentary rappelling skills, it's off to the big rocks.

You will learn to progress downwards with your feet planted firmly on the rocks at a horizontal position whilst suspending yourself from the rock face with a dual line. We will work up from a short rope to a time when you will be rappelling at speed down a vertical 100 foot face. The adrenaline will be pumping and you will feel extremely pleased with what you have learned to do. This activity is especially good for team-building skills and will create an extraordinary sense of well-being in the participant. You need to be reasonably fit in order to participate but all-comers can learn how to rappel and also how to trust themselves. This is a morning activity only.
